The Heart Behind Deaf Child Sponsors

April 14, 2021

Harper and Lucy are two best friends who live in Eagle, Colorado. Harper is 6 and Lucy is 7, they are in 1st grade. Together they sponsor Angelica who lives in Honduras and attends school at one of our 17 partner locations. Angelica is 15 years old and Deaf. Harper has a 3-year-old brother who is Deaf so she and Lucy have been learning Sign Language and wanted to help a Deaf child receive an education like they do. As the years go on the girls will do correspondence with Angelica, share parts of their lives with each other, draw pictures and pray for each other.  Angelica’s life and education are made brighter with the financial support of these two young girls from Colorado.

“We continue supporting DCH over the years because we know that this support provides these children a chance at an education that they wouldn’t have otherwise.”

Hi, we are the Michels Family from Wisconsin.  We sponsor Alwayne who lives in Jamaica and Cynthia who lives in Mexico.  We have been sponsoring a Deaf Child through DCH for about the past 7 years and added a second child this past year.  We started sponsoring when our son went to Kindergarten, hoping to support another child going to school.  We continue supporting DCH over the years because we know that this support provides these children a chance at an education that they wouldn’t have otherwise.  We enjoy receiving letters from our sponsored children, and really enjoy it when they draw a picture for us.

We post their photos in our kitchen so we remember them in our prayers.

“We started sponsoring children because we know from seeing our 4 children grow up in orphanages and in poverty.”

Hello, we are the Worrell family from Mullica Hill, New Jersey.  We are proud to say that we are the sponsor family for An, who lives in Vietnam. This is our 1st month sponsoring An. We do sponsor 2 other children through different organizations, and An is our first Deaf child that we are sponsoring. We are a family with 7 children. I, Tracy, am hearing but work as a sign language interpreter when I am well. I am currently battling stage 4 cancer BUT God has us and is working out my healing!!! My husband, Tom is Deaf and together we have 3 children that are hearing. 10 years ago we adopted our first son, who is Deaf, from China. Over the next few years we adopted 3 more children who are also Deaf and from China. Our family uses American Sign Language at home and we are a large family with lots going on. We started sponsoring children because we know from seeing our 4 children grow up in orphanages and in poverty, the difference some love and care and the hope of Jesus would have made in their lives if it had been offered to them.

We know how important this ministry is and we believe in the power of sponsorship. We support DCH/Deaf children in poverty because we know that these children tend to be one of the most overlooked populations and most times are living like our children were, without any language. What better way to show a child you care then through sponsorship and creating a connection through letters and love and showing them you are there for them and care. We believe in the mission of DCH and would love to see every deaf child on their page have a sponsor. The difference in these children’s lives when they receive a sponsor is monumental. Will you consider being this difference for a Deaf child today?
